Session 1: What's Happening in the States?
Tuesday June 17, 2025 10:30am - 11:25am CDT
Let's take a State Road Trip!   Join us as we travel across the Nation to see what is happening with product safety in the States. Hear latest regulatory updates from various States within the USA.  Critical regulatory information you need to know when doing business in the United States.

Minnesota has recently passed restrictions on toxic chemicals in products, including lead, cadmium, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Megan Saley, with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, will discuss these regulations, explain the requirements of the different phases of the PFAS law, and how it enforces the requirements.

Anne Marie Ellis with Buchalter will provide an update on various Attorney Generals recent product safety activities that could impact ICPHSO attendees. She will also highlight state laws and pending legislative activity in key states that involve product safety to address a potential lack of regulation from the CPSC.

Hear from Kerri Malinowski Farris with Maine Department of Environmental Protection about Maine’s Safer Chemicals Program which covers a wide range of chemical regulatory programs from chemicals in children’s products, food packaging, and flame retardants, to the most recent PFAS in products regulation. Maine is the first state to ban intentionally added PFAS in certain products (leading to a full sales prohibition in 2032) and provide a process for Currently Unavoidable Use determinations.

The panel members will compare and contrast the Maine and Minnesota regulations, as well as explore new activities in other states.
